Rueda is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) for wines located in the Community of Castile and León. It comprises 72 municipalities, of which 53 are in the province of Valladolid, 17 are in the north of the province of Segovia, and 2 are in the north of the province of Ávila. [3]

Rueda is part of the Duero River Basin which was created during the Cenozoic era (from 1-65 million years ago). The soils here are very deep and well-drained, primarily of sandy-clay or a clay blend. About Rueda. Like many of Spain's Denominaciones de Origen (DOs), Rueda is a historic wine region with winemaking traditions that stretch back to the Middle Ages. The DO was created in the early 1980s, and these days Rueda is famed for its white wines made from the Verdejo grape. But until the 1970s it was another white variety, Palomino.
